Art Exhibition! :]

 On Friday, the Fourth of December. We had an art exhibition. In this case, we walked around the school, each class/team had art, revolving around a topic. After being concocted by a student, they would then create it and the piece would then be put on display. All classes walked around the school, finding themselves in different classes with unique art. Our class (Room 4) started off by going into team 4. Their art revolved around Pasifika inspiration. Their art would show with a Polynesian pattern, with a description of its origin. I found this quite interesting! It was helpful to know more about my culture. Well done team 4! As we walked across the pavilion deck, we turned and met team 1’s art. It was absolutely lovely seeing amazing art by such young minds. Their art included a vast summary of a picture, for example, a house or field used with multiple, bright colours. So far, these were some of my favourite pieces. After looking around, and acknowledging the art, we cut through the door and moved through a corridor including last art expo’s art. Eventually, this led to the ICT room, which mostly involved art created by the extension group, I even saw my art! :D

My favourite art was created by team 1 and 2. The reason being that it was incredible seeing such amazing art created by youthful artists. They had many pieces including the following: Picasso inspirations, Indian elephants, Tye dye shirts, Drawings of Taniwhas and etcetera. 

The ICT art was created digitally, using Hyperstudio. Based on New Zealand Kiwianna symbols. The goal was to create a Kiwianna representation of yourself. My art was based on one of my previous homes. It was the view of a lake, home to the street of my old house.

My second art piece originated from Vincent Goph’s famous piece, ‘Starry Night’. This was room 4’s task. We had to recreate ‘Starry Night’. However, the challenge was to use Vincent’s style of painting, which involved using small and light paint strokes. I found this INCREDIBLY hard as there was absolutely no paintbrush to fit the strokes of Vincent. However, I luckily managed to finish it, along with doing part of the side task.

Plastic Pollution

            Plastic Pollution - ways to stop Plastic pollution

Plastic is a horrible miracle. We use it in various ways that both help us and hurt us. For example, Plastic bottles are great because they’re cheap and easy to use. However, it is often not recycled and ends up in our oceans. We use plastic because it is useful, resourceful and easy to make. Millions of plastic entities can drift into our oceans, get eaten by fish and then get eaten by us. It is harming our aquatic ecosystems and ourselves. Luckily, great people have found many solutions towards our plastic problems. Although they’ve made great and powerful solutions. It would still be helpful to do our part in the 5r’s. This includes “Reduce, Refuse, Reuse, Re-purpose and Recycle”.

Reducing plastic as in using less plastic brands. This means avoiding things like plastic bottles, cutlery, toys etc. Reducing plastic could also include choosing to swap out plastic brands for metallic or glass ones. Take bottles for example, using metallic bottles last much longer than single-use plastic bottles.

Refusing plastic would mean getting less plastic like takeaways and other fast food plastic types. Cooking would be included in refusing due to its lack of plastic and including more long lasting plastic. It would also be helpful to avoid using plastic types and instead use non- plastic brands.

Reusing is keeping your plastic items for more uses. An example would be to continuously use a plastic bag until it’s no longer effective. It would also mean using the same plastic bottle, always refilling it when you’ve finished. It would prevent it from turning into pollution and avoids being single use plastics.

Re-purpose. Re-purpose is keeping your plastic valuables, and keeping them for another usage. An example could be a yogurt container, maybe using it for a container of paint or water. Re-purposing is very useful due to avoiding ending up in the ocean and keeping it for more use.

Lastly, Recycle. Although “recycle” used to be the main subject, it is almost no longer useful since our recycled pollution used to be shifted to China, which is no longer accepting our rubbish. Now it’s just being chucked into Malaysia and other places in Asia. So, Recycling is almost as bad as putting it in general rubbish. So maybe try participating in doing the 4r’s instead.

Mini Immersion assembly thingy

On the 12th of October, during the morning of school, every class gathered into the assembly hall. As we walked in, we noticed that our term theme was “Art Alive!” or “Toi Ora!”. Team one, also known as the year ones, showed a project of the team one teachers recreating famous art pieces. For example, “The Scream”, “Girl with a pearl”, etc. Another interesting project was team fours’, since they had shown their planning from behind the scenes.

I’m actually feeling quite excited about this term since I have a talent for drawing and animation.

Plastic Pollution task

2. Astronomer Charles Green was tasked to view the transit of mercury with his telescope.

Tuvaluan session

Task description: Today, rooms four, five and one went to the assembly hall to learn Tuvaluan culture. Two woman named Marian Molia started teaching us first by showing us a presentation. They first started by showing us facts like, how it has nine other mini islands, or how it is the 4th smallest country in the world. Alongside them showing us a presentation, they than taught us a Tuvaluan performance. Although it talk a bit long to learn, it was at the end, a really fun experience to have learnt.

Task description: From a square piece of paper we can make a box without a lid by cutting a square from each corner and folding up the flaps.

Find the different volumes of box it is possible to make by changing the size of the cut-out squares.
