During maths today, our class was split into separate groups. I was in a group with Aye myat, Simon and Jane. We all had to figure out the "Deca Tree" problem. What we first did was figure out the equation. We wrote 10 to the power of 4 (10 x 10 x 10 x 10). Then, we realised that there were 10,000 leaves. However, on the second part of the equation is where we started to struggle. I thought it was 9000 since I imagined that 1 branch was 1000. However, at the end, a different group was told to go up front the class and present their answer, they said that when they got to 10,000, they did -1111, which equalled 8889.
Kia ora Austin,
ReplyDeleteI am really impressed that you saw that the number of leaves on the deca tree equals 10 to the power of 4. It was a challenge to work out how many leaves were left on the tree once the woodcutter left! Now you grappled with this part your brain would have grown!
